Warning!  Gateway computers may be a dying company.  Late 2007, presumably in a desperate effort to raise cash, they sold off their business computers division to MPC, who within a year was in bankruptcy themselves.  Tens of thousands--maybe hundreds of thousands--of Gateway customers saw their warranties and extended service plans disappear overnight, although there were reports even before the bankruptcy of substandard repair work by that company.

Based on this recent history, I would recommend avoiding this company for business or personal computers.  Stick with Dell, HP, or IBM/Lenova.  And speaking of Dell, see below...

For desktop computers, laptops, or servers, I favor Dell for flexibility and support.

Caution:  Click on the link to the right, or go to dell.com to configure and purchase a computer.  My experience, and that of those I have dealt with in recent years, says DO NOT ORDER BY PHONE!  Dell's telephone sales people are motivated to earn commissions.  While there is nothing wrong with that, I've discovered more than a couple cases where the customer suffered for the sake of that commission.  Over-selling you or selling you discontinued or obsolete equipment... two of the demonstrated risks of ordering from Dell by phone.

Why pay more, indeed!

For just about everything else, I have yet to be disappointed by

Outstanding reliability, ease of backup, and value.  I use this and recommend it.
